This Privacy Policy explains how Jarsen ("Jarsen," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our website, application, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who We Are

Jarsen ("we," "us," "our") is a company that builds AI-powered tools to help student founders move from stuck to actually building. This policy applies to Jarsen.ai and any associated apps/subdomains.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you give us directly

  • Account information: name, email address, password (hashed), school/university (if provided)
  • Profile information: startup idea, stage, goals, or other information you enter to personalize guidance
  • Communications: messages you send us via email, support chat, or feedback forms
  • Content you submit: prompts, questions, documents, or other input you provide to the AI features of the Service

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed, features used, session duration, click patterns
  • Device and log data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, timestamps
  • Cookies and similar technologies: used for authentication, analytics, and remembering preferences (see Section 8)

2.3 Information from third parties

  • If you sign up or log in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information (name and email address; Apple may provide a private relay email) as permitted by that provider. We never see your Google or Apple password.
  • Payment processors, if you subscribe to a paid plan.

2.4 Information we do not intentionally collect

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (e.g., government ID numbers, health data, financial account details beyond what's needed for billing) unless you voluntarily include it in content you submit — and we discourage you from doing so.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including AI-generated guidance and responses
  • Personalize your experience (e.g., tailoring questions to your startup stage)
  • Improve, test, and develop new features
  • Communicate with you (service updates, support, marketing you can opt out of)
  • Monitor usage, detect abuse, and maintain security
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions

We do not sell your personal information.

4. How We Use AI, and What Happens to Your Data There

  • The Service uses AI models to generate responses to your prompts. To do this, content you submit is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, for processing.
  • Anthropic processes your input only to generate a response. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, inputs and outputs sent through the API are not used to train their models.
  • We keep your conversation history and a running summary of it (your "Field Journal") so jarsen can remember context across sessions. You can view and edit the summary, erase your chats and progress, or delete your account at any time from your account page.
  • We do not use your content to train or fine-tune AI models.
  • Automated outputs are generated by AI and may be imperfect. Use judgment before relying on AI-generated guidance for significant business, legal, or financial decisions.

5. How We Share Information

We share information only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers: Vercel (website hosting), Supabase (database and account login), Anthropic (AI responses, see Section 4), Lemon Squeezy (payments and tax, as merchant of record, if you buy a plan), Google and Apple (only if you choose to log in with them), GitHub (only if you connect a repository: read-only access to the repositories you choose; we store short summaries of your pushes and of the repository, never your code, and you can disconnect anytime), and our email provider (account and password emails). These providers are contractually limited to using your data to perform services for us.
  • Legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Jarsen, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers: if Jarsen is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you if this materially changes how your data is handled.
  • With your consent: for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time we collect the information.

6. Data Retention

We keep account data (chats, Field Journal, settings) for as long as your account is active. You can erase your chats and progress, or delete your account entirely, at any time from your account page; deletion removes your data and your login. Chats you have before creating an account are deleted automatically 30 days after your last activity. Usage counters for visitors who are not signed in are stored only as an anonymous, non-reversible hash and deleted after 7 days. Payment records are kept by Lemon Squeezy as required by law.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information (e.g., encryption in transit, access controls). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If we experience a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and browser storage (no advertising or analytics trackers) to:

  • Keep you logged in
  • Remember preferences
  • Keep your place in a conversation before you create an account

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit some features of the Service.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and personal information
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Opt out of marketing communications (via unsubscribe link or by contacting us)

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@jarsen.app. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (e.g., 30 days under GDPR, 45 days under CCPA).

If you are in the European Economic Area or UK (GDPR)

Our legal bases for processing include: performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, and legal obligation. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell personal information). You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for students who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under this age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International Data Transfers

If you access the Service from outside Vietnam, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Vietnam or other countries where our service providers operate. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses where required).

12. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. Review their privacy policies before providing any information.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date, and, where required, by additional notice (e.g., email).
